I have a kitchen table where the finish is coming off. This table also has grooves in it that I hate. I was wondering if it was possible to fill those grooves in with some type of wood putty or filler, then refinish the table. Any one have any ideas>

Yes you can fill the cracks and sand them level with the top. The problem comes in how are you going to refinish it. If you are going to paint it no problem. If you are going to put a clear sealer over it the filler will stick out like a sore thumb. Will not look good at all. I have yet found a wood filler that takes stain very well. There are some that work pretty good but with long lines of filler it will really stand out.

Don's right, what you could consider is filling the groves, sanding flush and applying a veneer to the top

Thanks for your advice. Should I use a regular wood putty or something else?

Would it end up looking better if you took off the existing top and put on a new one?

My goal in life is to become a has been. In order to become a has been, you had to have been a somebody at some point, and I'd rather be a has been than a never was....
