I need someone advice on what grit sandpaper to use in order to prepare a new aftermarket plastic bumper. I have the paint and the gun and the desire. Just not the grit number. Thanks in advance

Can someone tell me where in the world I can find a human heart to do a transplant, I have a scalpel and a bunch of doctor stuff and the desire so all I need to do is find a heart.

What you are asking is the same as someone trying to do any skilled endeavor without knowledge. Having tools doesn't make you a doctor and having a can of paint doesn't make you a painter.

But at least if you muck up a paint job no one dies.

A skilled painter would start out with a coarse grit wet paper than work their way to a smooth grit, probably ending in 1600 grit wet paper,

Do you know how to wet sand, and how to use a block?

Do you know how to mix the paint with blending solvent or reducer, I am sure that you know that it varies according to the humidity in your spray booth, and you know the proper formula. You do have a dust controlled, humidity controlled spray booth don't you?

How about that compressor, I hope you have something that can put out a lot of air with a moisture remover in line, 220 volt 10 horsepower compressor is normal but you can get by with a 5 horsepower if you are doing a small jobs.

If you don’t know these thing go to a trade school or night school adult education to learn because there is a lot more that I left out.

Hey bud hope this helps.

All you need to do is scuff the bumper up
a little,as for grit try something around
320,just go easy on it. Then clean bumper
with automotive grade prep or solvent to clean off all smudges, oily finger prints etc.
prime,seal,paint. Good luck.

P.S. Forget all that b/s from the above post.
Then if it don't work out for you take it to
a pro. "O" do remember to know what your air
pressure should be set at,at the gun.Very im-
portant,if you dont know ask the person at the paint store to give you a MSDS sheet. very helpful piece of information. LATER.

To the corvette man. I'm no pro, but than neither are you. I asked a simple question (that was answered by a body shop owner the next day) and didn't expect to have my ass chewed out by anyone. Where's your sense of brotherhood? Or are you considered by those around you to be perfect? Then I just you and Jesus can walk on water.
