The healthier turf the better? Stressed turf grass is more easily damaged from the urine, especially if drought stressed. If you can possibly dilute the urine with a water hose or sprinkler, soon after your dog voids this will help a lot.
Often this can be a common problem with older, more sedentary dogs too, as they are often not as active, thus don't drink as much water and the urine can get more concentrated and more apt to burn the grass.

i've had luck with a product called grass-saver patch(seed).....little more work than a spray for the spots but, grass comes back well....also, could have the dog go #1 across the street instead of your yard
There is a book out there that tells you of everyday items when combined will cure problems like this, I think called Household Hints & Tips. My grandmother used a combination of items that worked wonders on her yard to get rid of the spots.
