I have a large maple tree near the house and don't want to damage it too much. How do I install a wooden fence 4 x 4 post or adapt it to hold up a 3.5 picket fence.

Hi SusanAnn1`950,

Since you want to install a fence, you don't say much about the tree as to size, i.e. height and diameter as this will help greatly in offering assistance. Also how close does this fence come to the tree and in particular any fence posts you may install. I imagine you wish to space the posts 8 feet apart for your picket fence.

With this information you can get the needed help you desire.
