On the exterior of our home (of course, on the front), the wood is rotting that the prior owner put in front of the concrete foundation. How do I go about taking this out and what do I put in the place of what was taken out. I have never seen this before. Under the vinyl siding was a wood composite siding(which has rotted), then on top of that they had put black paper(like you used under roofing). This was all in front of the concrete block foundation. I need help, husband won't fix it, I will. If need be I can take pictures and post if that will help.
Any way of getting a picture? It's hard to say by your deciption exactly were the rot is. Before fixing it you have to find out why it happened. Is it where the concrete was pored for the porch that's up againt the house that's rotting? If it's OSB board your talking about and it's the area where it goes pased the concrete to cover up the gap where the foundation plate and the foundation meet, then most likly there's a leak above it, or if someone started the siding to high and left it exposed. Tar paper does not breath and moisture will build up inside the walls and rot them out from the inside out. Tyvek should have been used. Also you posted in the wrong area. Try reposting in the Outside Home Improvement areas.
