I have knitted a shawl and the pattern calls for a fringe but I don't get the instructions. There are 55 stitches and the pattern reads, "Next row: **Cast off first st. *Turn and cast on 10 sts. Turn back and cast off 13 sts. Rep from * to end of row. All sts. have been cast off.**" I did a couple of practice runs but I did something wrong (I really don't know what I'm doing!!) and when I have finished with all the sts and remove it from the needle, the "fringe part which is the 10 cast on sts" comes unraveled because it's not knitted to anything. PLEASE HELP!!!

What you are doing casting off the first stitch, then adding 10 stitches by turning and casting on 10 stitches, turning and casting off 13 . This is your fringe and a few of the stitches from the body of your shawl, then add 10 stitches and do the same.( this is your fringe ) By adding 10 then turing to cast off 13 you are working the 10 fringe st. and a couple from the body Will kind of look like this fringe ( but done differently )
