When knitting or purling that end stitches are always so loose. Is there any thing I can do to make them tighter? Thank you

try slipping the first stitch of each row onto the right hand needle without working it. You could also build in selvage stitches into your pattern which will make your seams a little bulkier but your finished tension will be a little smoother

I think you will find that it is the last stitch of the previous row which causes the problem, not the first of the next row.

As you turn the knitting to do the next row, give the yarn a tug to snug the last stitch onto the needle and the problem will go away.

Well, that is what I do anyway so I hope that helps.

Have fun.
