The title says it all basically, I lent my home to friend whilst travelling, and came home to no hot water. The override slider at the side of the clock face would turn the water on, but the timer did not go round. I replced the timer, and I have the same problem. I know nothing about these things, do I need an electrician? Surely if there was a problem with the electricty flow to the dial, the over-ride wouldn't work?

Any tips gratefully appreciated.

No make, model, or picture, not sure how anyone going to help witout having to guess what you have.

if I were going to try and cut $15 a month using a water heater timer, I would use a good old fashioned steel-case industrial Intermatic. main reason is that the little dinky gearmotor is based on a small shaded-pole (fake) motor with little bitty porous bronze oil bearings, and needs a drop of oil periodically. that thing is not serviceable.

I didn't choose that thing, I have inherited that thing, and I'd like a hot shower in the morning. Thanks for all your help guys. I know where to come next time I need a sensible suggestion.
