I tried to install my new ceiling fan only to find that I have one too many elctrical wires coming through my ceiling. But! I plan on conquering this project by 3:00PM today. Wish me lots of luck, and no electrical fires. Anthony Barrow

One too many wires depends on what you are planning on doing with the fan install. A simple fan wiring from the house would have 3 wires - Black = hot, White = neutral and Green = ground. Often there is a fourth wire added - Red = hot to lights. Usually the black and the red are switched separately. For the house to fan connections it's: black to black, white to white, red to blue and green to green (or bare copper). If you are installing a fan only with no light kit then cap off the red and do not connect the blue. Many fans now come standard with a remote. These only need the basic three wire connections to work. Here to, just cap off the red. Post any more details if you need to, there are quite a few electrical savvy people here. Jaybee

Sounds like it's just a switch loop. Which means the power first comes to the light then the hot lead (black) goes to the switch and back to the light with a red wire. Look at this drawing and replace the words coded black with red and see if this drawing makes since. http://www.bing.com/images/sea...5018&selectedIndex=5 joecaption
