Just trying to get any information, good, bad, or indifferent about installing (rather having installed for me) a counter weight ceiling light.

We have a small dining area that you walk through to get to the TV room. We push the table against the wall during the day.

The existing ceiling lamp doesn't give out much light. I'd like to change it and was thinking of a counter weight lamp so it could be pulled down for more light if we're using the table as a desk, then pushed up during the day as we walk through the room.

        Any thoughts?

That could be a good solution to your problem. When I was a kid we had a retractable fixture over our kitchen table. I did a bit of a web search on it and there are a number of counterweight fixtures out there. It all will depend on you finding a style that works in your house.

These all have a modern feel to them.

If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. Thanks, over half the time my "wouldn't that be a good idea" ideas are really duds!
