        Can you install a non-IC pot light in a pine tongue and groove ceiling?

        I'm planning on installing a pine tongue and groove ceiling in my basement. It was drywalled before and there are existing non-IC pot lights. In an effort to save on some costs, I would like to re-use the pot lights, however I'm not sure if a non-IC light can be used in contact with the T&G ceiling. I'm not planning on adding any isulation (if I do I'll box each fixture). Can I re-use these lights?

        I frankly don't worry about it, because I've installed IC/non-IC lights. use anyplace that isn't wet or steamy, no issue. since the light assembly is $4-6 each, it's not worth the money to quibble IMPHO.

        I also put CFLs in everything, so I don't much worry about the heat in any event.

        It's the top of the can that gets hot, not where the ceiling is.
        It will work fine.
        All that material really shoud be stained and sealed before it ever gets installed or it may cup or buckle and pull the nails out.
        You do know you can use 3/8 not 1/2 or 3/4, right.
        I use a narrow crown pneumatic stape gun for this job. The tip lines up perfect.
        You do know you have to leave rom at the ends for expention and contraction.
        Just cover the gap with crown or cove moulding.

        Thanks for your replies and tips swschrad and joecaption. Yes I do know about the gaps on the ends to compensate for expansion and I have also read about the CFLs as well. This helps alot.
