Fan timer attached to switch
One more question from me...

In the upstairs hall way we have a vent/ceiling fan. The fan is controlled by a switch and timer (pictured the timer is the one with two wires). I'd like to ditch the timer and just have a new switch. Does this need to be a 3-way

My thinking was to just lose the wire that connects the two and replace it with the black wire coming from the wall.

I look forward to learning how to do this, thanks for your help!

to ditch the times, just disconnect the jumper wire between the two switches (black wire on the left on the timer on top). Then take the remaining black from the timer (wire on the right) and connect where the black wire on the switch is now.

You will need to use a three-way switch only if there is another switch somewhere that also controls the fan. It looks like there is as the red wire should be the traveler between the two switches.

I may be missing something from the wires folded in the box, but this is a rather odd setup. Am I missing something? Wink

just guessing out loud, but if the red wire is power for this circuit, and if the two blacks (timer and other side of the 3-way) are joined in the box, there are two options for the fan... always on by the switch... or on timer by the timer.

need to drop the breaker for that circuit, pull out the wires, and check that option. at that point, all wires associated with the timer can go away with the timer.

if that isn't the way it's done, we need a whole lot more info about what is there to be helpful.

sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?

Hear why you are saying. Smile But running it in my head, I just can't make up a circuit that will work. Not that I sat down and drew up a layout, which I still do when a brain lock up occurs. Not seeing how the other switch {?} is tied in does not help.
