Canned lights & 2 layers of Sheetrock
I have roughed in a bathroom and decided to put a layer of Sheetrock over a textured ceiling. I cut my holes and attempted to set remodel canned lights. The brackets are set to hold the light in place for one layer of Sheetrock and do not work for two layers. Is there an easy fix?

It would have been easier before the second layer went up. You could remove the first layer of sheetrock around the can light. With the second layer it will be tougher, but it doesn't have to be pretty as long as you don't mess up your new sheetrock.

You only need to remove it an inch or so where the clips for the cans will be. Reach up through the hole with a utility knife and deeply score the original drywall, then try to break it out.

Some cans have allowances for thicker drywall, but usually for 5/8 instead of 1/2 you're trying to handle 1" of drywall now.

Most cans are adjustable for a double ceiling thickness.
