We have a 10x10 kitchen with really cool stainless steel countertops. The outdated soffets and lack of cabinet space is driving my wife crazy. So we have to redo the kitchen. I can't seem to justify getting rid of these great countertops (especially after hearing how expensive they would be to replace) but every place I've been to is telling me they have to go. Could it possibly work and be retrofitted to the wall as a back splash, behind your counters?

don't let anyone (besides your wife) tell you what you need to get rid of in your own home (unless its unsafe of course). Worst case scenario, put them in your garage, they'd probably make a great workbench... otherwise, spend $50 for an angle grinder and wire brush (stainless wire brush) and sand designs into the top! ~Gutt
