We are building a room divider/half wall and want to use a glass pocket door on its'side. Door would slide down into pocket; leaving top portion open between the two rooms-allowing air circulation and view between rooms. Stowed door would be in the half-wall. We've seen this while we were living in Germany so we know it's possible but what kind of pulley/lowering/raising system would anyone recommend? Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!
What you want are called linear actuators. Many, many styles and sizes available to custom fit whatever you want to lift. These could be hidden inside the half wall and raise the door panel when you want to divide the room.
Some here: http://www.firgelliauto.com/ but Google "linear actuator" for other choices.
linear actuators would be best, but if they are too pricey for you, you could use a pulley system as is used on venetian blinds
Nowadays linear actuators are very much expensive so I suggest that you only use traditional ideas for that. Those only uses linear actuators is good for home built with modern wall dividers and doors. Check out http://caldwells.com/interior-doors/traditional-doors, this is much perfect for you.
