I want to convert an area that WAS a half bath (the old owners converted it in a room the size of a closet, WHY?!?) BACK into a half bath. These are the things I need to accomplish, I just want to make sure the ORDER of things would be right:

*install new light fixture that would be over the vanity
*sand and re-paint the solid wood door
*replace the trim
*cover the vinyl floor with vinyl wood planks
*get plumber out to re-plumb the sink and toilet
*install toilet
*install vanity

I like the wall color, so no paint.

Oh your going to have to do some painting, he's going to have to open up the walls in order to redo the plumbing for the sink and the toilet.

Plumbing first, then rebuild and finish all the rest.

well, you can watch Hillbilly Renovations if you don't want to do it correctly.

why put in nice things, when you have to rip them out and bust stuff up to plumb and test, then redo the nice things? first, demo and build the electrical and plumbing at least to code, preferably to current best practices. then after test and approval by the inspector, put walls back in, and then pretty it up.

what's on the other side of this little half bath? can you steal some space and make it a full bath without compromising any bedrooms or living space? if so, that's a win-win at resale or refinancing appraisal.

oh, paint. get a chip off the wall larger than an inch square, put it in a safe container, and take it to the paint counter. every serious paint operation, even those in big box improvement stores, has a computer paint matcher. scan the chip, out comes the formula, mix the paint and compare. no problem.

As was said before, start with the plumbing (after whatever demo is necessary to install the plumbing). Then follow the general rule of starting at the ceiling and working your way down to the floor.

I would try this order:
1) get plumber out to re-plumb the sink and toilet
2) redo any drywall and flooring, and paint the walls where the drywall was replaced *added step
3) install new light fixture that would be over the vanity
4) sand and re-paint the solid wood door
5) replace the trim around the door
6) install toilet
7) install vanity
8) cover the vinyl floor with vinyl wood planks
9) replace the trim around the floor

At least that's what I think I would do, would be glad to hear some feedback.

The plumber needs to do his job first. Everything else just doesn't make any sense.
