We are in the middle of remodeling our kitchen. We are stuck on what we can do with these old disgusting cabinets. We are not wanting to put in new cabinets, but looking to paint these or put some sort of design in them. We are not looking to spend a whole lot of money since we just got done remodeling our living room and bedroom. Attached is a picture of our current cabinets. Thank you!!

Your cabinets phoned and said they heard what you said about their being disgusting.
If it wuz me, I would number the doors using masking tape on the back of each door, and paint them a nice solid colour that will go with whatever else you plan to do in that kitchen, and then put them up again. That way you have coloured doors on white cabinets, and that should add some flavour to your kitchen.
I expect you have an oil based paint on your doors now. Sand the old paint down and then paint over that roughened old paint with new interior oil based paint. You CAN prime the old paint before applying the new paint, but the whole purpose in sanding the old paint down is to increase the surface area between the two coats, thereby improving the apparent adhesion of the next coat. So, the better the job you do sanding, the less need there is to prime the sanded old paint before applying the new paint.
Be aware that not all colours hide an underlying colour equally well. The flatter a paint the better it hides an underlying colour and Earth Tone colours like reddish brown, mustard yellow and chocolate brown hide better than "colour wheel" colours like red, blue, yellow and orange, green and purple. This message has been edited. I am thinking that with the doors being a different color than the cabinets themselves, won't that make them look retro like? We have a more modern/contemporary look in our kitchen.
In thinking about using the 2 different colors on the doors/cabinets, using a defined two tone with drastic colors or using 2 close colors?
