I am getting a new vanity. I thought I wanted the vanity to sit on the floor with baseboards around the bottom, versus a vanity with 3 ish inch legs. Lets just keep in simple and not discuss wall mounted vanities.

I thought the raised vanity with legs would just make a place under the vanity for dirt to collect and another place to clean.

But with children and so much water getting on the floor at bath and shower time.....I wonder if the raised vanity on legs would ???? last longer ??? be better ??? so the wood, baseboards, etc., aren't sitting in a puddle of water.

Yeah, sure, I try to limit the water damage in the bathroom etc., but still the floor and surrounding (existing) vanity and walls can get pretty soaked from time to time.

Any thoughts?

Those silly legs are for looks only, and your right nothing but a dust bunny hiding spot.
What I like to do is run a bead of caulking at the base of the baseboard before installing the 1/4 rd. so the water can not get under it.

Thanks.....there are so many choices out there.....I am driving myself crazy.

with children, you really need a marble top or a resin type marble one peice top
so that the little darlings wont splash water all over the floor. a marble one peice top will contain
[somewhat] the water.
a free standing will let more water on to the floor

Honestly my kids never splashed water around the bathroom or got puddles on the floor from bathing/showering. Maybe I was just really lucky?

However seems a toilet overflow could always be a possibility, (first helpful thing to teach them is where the shut off is to the toilet, and to not double flush if the first one does not go down). We have always had vanity cabinets that went down to the floor, and as others suggested a bead of caulk along the perimeter.
