This is not my first project, but my 3rd. It is also my first with gathering. I got the gathering done by simply pulling the thread (took me 4 times to figure it out). Next time I will try the dental floss method I have read about I am using the pattern New Look 6557 view D. My dilemma is that I am to the next step, attaching the gathered bodice to the midriff. I am a novice beginner and I thought that i new a bit until I started this pattern. What does "pull up gathering stitches to fit" mean?
P.S. This will probably be the first of many questions for this piece.
Kirsten, you're doing fine. Put the two pieces together, the one with the gathers and the bodice, the way you will sew them. Use the thread you pulled to make the gathers, and work it a bit to make the "gathered part" fit the bodice part. Hope that makes sense to you.
Do just as Hapewmn said but also make sure your gathering is even all the way around. In other words do not let your gathers be bunched up in one spot and only a few in others. Space them all so that they are even and also try to keep the edges of both fabrics Iright sides together) even. Doing this will make your project look really nice. Hope this helps.
