Years ago, approximately 15, I attended a quilt show and one of the demonstators showed how to transfer a black and white photo to fabric using something like turpentine or kerosene. I really don't remember what it was they used. I did try it out at the time and really loved how it came out. I do think that the printer has to be one that uses powdered toner, such as the ones in large offices. I tried this today using turpentine, and it did not work. Any one that may know what is used or what I am doing wrong, I would sure appreciate the help
Could it be you used Ink Jet Set? With Ink Jet Set, you soak your fabric in the clear solution, ring out and allow to dry. You can reuse what solution that was left over. Iron your fabric on freezer paper to give it stability and then put it in the printer. Now you are ready to print any picture from black and white to color. I hope this helped.
Thank you, but no that was not it. I am familiar with this technique through reading about it. The technique I am referring to takes a black and white photocopy turned face down to the fabric and the photocopy is brushed or drizzled with the chemical and rubbed with a back of a spoon and instantly transfers. I've tried turpentine and it did not work. I am going to get some kerosene and try it. If I have luck, I am going to post it.
There is a product made especially to do this. I do not know about the Kerosene or Turpentine. I saw it done just as you stated. This product was sold on QVC.com during one of their craft days. I have seen it at Michaels a craft store in Atlanta, Ga. but I do not remember the name of it. But I would check with a craft store in your area. Hope this helps.
