i got a used Alpine D310 with a flip-out face. i had it proffesionally installed and the top half of the unit (the part that flips out to display the screen) doesn't work. there are about 5 buttons on the outer top portion of the radio and they do not work either.
any ideas? thanx!

Hi Mudboss,

When you bought it used did you ask if all functions on the unit worked properly?

Have you been back to those that installed the unit? They would surely know and possibly correct the issue if it was an error on installation.

Below is a link to a copy of the User Manual in pdf format that you can download for the Alpine IVA-D310 (a discontinued model). In it you will find instruction on Detaching and Attaching the Front Panel. It may hold clues to what may be wrong. In addition there is also a section an Troubleshooting which you can refer to and gain assistance.

Good Luck!

when i got it, it looked brand new. i didn't ask if it all worked (should have). the installers said they think it is as simple as a bad ribbon cable. i hope so. i found a local radio repair shop that i plan on calling today. if that doesn't work, i have to bite the bullet and send it to Alpine repair's center in NY that'll cost me over $200!
one more thing i noticed: there is a red light on the right side that is ALWAYS blinking. is that normal or does that mean something?
thanx again Smile

Hi Mudboss

Download the manual in the link I posted before and read through it to determine what that light might mean. You may also need the face plate to determine what indicator is showing when it flashes and then check the manual and the Troubleshooting section.

Good Luck

i have the face plate on and the tuner and cd player work fine. the remote control works too. i have the owners manual, i tried reading yours but it was too small. i'll take a look and see if it says anything about the red light blinking constantly.
thanx!

Hi Mudboss,

If the print was too small change then the magnification in the program. You can find that in the icon bar over the top of the document window or sometimes at the bottom below the document. It will be displayed as say 50% and beside it is a arrow, which when you click on it will cause a whole list of numbers to appear. Click on 100% and if that is too small click on 150% until you can read it comfortably. Then use the scroll bars along the bottom and the right side to review the document.

Good Luck!

i did get a chance to check out the manual today.... NO HELP Frown
i contacted a local repair shop, he said $40 to check it out, if he fixes it the $40 will be applied to my bill. Alpine in NY is a flate $200 fee plus shipping. they both claim a two week turn-around.
everyone i talk to/email says it sounds like a bad ribbon cable. i wish i could fix it myself!
i did notice in the manual that it said somethin about a "reset" button. i might try that, but i doubt that's it.
thanx again!

Does it blink when the car is turned off, or only when the ignition is in the "ON" position? I could indicate that the 12V power wasn't properly installed. Also, it may indicate LOW power, and therefore not able to power up the screen.

Some cars don't use a 12V wire to power audio anymore. Maybe it wasn't a 12V supply that was connected to your screen.
