For the purpose of getting just the right shade of a base color, say blue, would you mix your paint with white or black? Or even both?
Wouldn't that depend on (1) whether you wanted a darker or lighter color, and (2) where your desired color is on the color wheel?
When I took some informal colored pencil classes, one of the topics was what colors could be used to create specific unique color combinations, to darken, or to lighten.
E.g., to create a sense of darkness at the base of a log, black was not used. Unfortunately this was some time ago and without checking my notes someplace I don't remember what the ideal color was - maybe Indigo blue I think.
Colored pencil is obviously a different medium, but I'm wondering if the principles of color wheels wouldn't apply?
Conrad, I think you're our resident artists. Any opinion? This message has been edited. Last edited by: GardenSprite,
