Hello to all,

Have a bathroom where 1/2 is tile in the shower area and the flr [makes sense] and the other is all wood.

Had a guy come in and paint the bathroom and about a yr later, the white wood walls have yellowed, mostly the near the edges and trim...not the trim, but just the edges of the wood near the trim.

This is a latex paint, all white. I want to just repaint over it, but want to make sure the yellow issues are resolved one and for all...your suggestions are appreciated and thank you in advance.

I would dampen a white paper towel with bleach and clean the affected areas. See if that removes the yellow discolouration. If so, it's possible that you might have some fungii there causing the discolouration.

The second possibility is that your painter painted with a styrenated acrylic latex paint. These are popular in Europe, but not very common in North America. Styrenated acrylic latex paints have poor UV resistance and do yellow a bit with age, although not nearly as much as oil based paints.

I'd check to see if bleach removes that discolouration. If so, it's probably ALIVE! and you should clean it all off before painting over it.
