Hello, I've just used a too-old oil paint on a piece of furniture. It's been about 20 hours since I painted and it is still tacky. Is it likely to ever dry enough for a light sanding?

        Thanks, Susan

        How is it doing now?
Depending on humidity and drying conditions, oil paint can take longer to cure. I was going to suggest waiting a few more days and see if the paint has cured hard, so possibly no sanding or possible stripping may be necessary.

I asked my question too soon. It has dried, now. However, because the paint was too old, it was somewhat curdled and the paint did not go down smoothly. Now I have to decide how important it is to me to get a smoother coat. :-)\

        Thanks, Susan

when i use oil paint i always waite 24 hours before i sand lightly and put my second coat on.after that i leave the painted item to sit for about 7 days so the soft paint does not smudge when handling. also it is important to use the proper brush for oil paint.

Oil paints take some time to get dry but oil painting is the paint which attracts a lot and It gives the real touch. Make sure that while using oil paints use proper suitable brushes.
