I live in a 1996 Belmont manufactured home that has vinyl covered luan plywood walls and batton strips. We would like to paint the master bath the correct way and have the paint stick and stay stuck cause there ain't no going back.

It's a popular misconception that you can't paint vinyl, and I expect the reason for that misconception is that window manufacturers tell their customers not to paint PVC windows, but to leave them white.

The reason for not painting windows is that vinyl softens up considerably on hot days, and the concern is that the weight of an open window being supported by warm vinyl could cause the vinyl to permanently distort.

But, the truth is that you can paint vinyl. People paint vinyl siding all the time.

The only thing I'd recommend is that you choose a top-of-the-line paint from a well known name like Pratt & Lambert, Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore to ensure you get excellent adhesion, good hiding of the underlying colour and a hard film that will stand up well to scrubbing.

I don't feel you'd need to use a primer before you paint, but if you'd feel safer doing that, then a very sticky latex primer is Zinsser Bullseye 123 available to Home Depot. Zinsser boasts that this primer will stick to smooth surfaces like glazed ceramic wall tiles, galvanized metal and high gloss polyurethane.
