I am painting my oak kitchen cabinets a creamy beige color, semi gloss. should I put a coat of poly on top?
why not just use a poly paint in the color you want, min-wax might have it, then there would be no need to overcoat it.
whatever you decide, make sure to clean the cabinet and doors thoroughly
If you take a cabinet door or drawer into a pro paint store (like Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore), they can help you choose a great paint as well as suggest the best prep and primer for the cabinets, depending on the finish and surface you want to achieve.
As nona suggested, there are great paints that work well for finishing the surface and make it cleanable, so no additional poly would be necessary.
