I'm replacing the tile in my foyer, with marble, which is thicker then the original tile. Due to this, the end caps, for the baseboard heater is at least a 1/2" too high. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I've searched the web for replacement end caps that are about 6 1/2" high, but didn't get any hits. I thought about using tin snips to cut them, but that will look awful. Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Well, you've come to the right place.

Shafter Brothers in Montreal specializes in old and obsolete hydronic (hot water) heating and steam heating equipment, especially radiators. If you e-mail them a picture of the problem you're facing, they would know if a shorter version is available. I expect they could certainly provide the same kind of cover you've got now.

When I installed carpeting in my living rooms, it caused the cast iron baseboard radiator end caps to be too low and interfere with the installation of the carpet. I removed the end caps from the baseboard radiators and cut the bottoms of them off with a jig saw using a metal cutting blade and then cleaned up the rough edge of the cut with an ordinary file.

If yours are anything like mine, you will have end caps that fasten to both the board behind the radiator and the end of the radiator. There are two kinds of end caps; a left mounting one for the left end of a radiator and right mounting one for the right end of a radiator. The end covers are all the same and just snap into place in either a left or right end cap.

If you order anything from Shafter Brothers, make sure you tell them whether or not you need the end caps too, or just the covers that fit over them. And, if you do, specify whether you need one for the right side or the left side.

May be able to simply remove the screws holding the Unit to the wall and lift the whole cover. (not just the end caps)
