Basement Washroom
Hi

I am putting a washroom in my basement and have a saniflo toilet ready to be installed. I need to put a p-trap from the tub into the macerator however in order to do this i have to go below grade of the basement. I was wondering if its possible to encase the p-trap and all the plumbing going into the macerator in concrete. we have to dig the concrete up to put the macerator into and don't want to leave it open as it may bring up ground water. any suggestions?

hmmm, a tub drain into a below-ground macerator and pump.

your average tub will hold between 40 and 50 gallons of water, and it drains in a couple minutes.

I will bet dollars to donuts that a toilet-service macerator is not going to keep up with that inflow.

meaning a gawd-awful unholy mess every time the tub is drained.

you SURE you can't chop floor to get to the main drain line and install this stuff without running the service drains downhill to the tub etc. for another awful mess? this needs review. the size of the macerator pump needs review.

dig and consider, my friend.

sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?

swschrad, you'll loose some donuts with that bet. The macerator will have no problem handling the flow from a tub drain.

As for encasing everything in concrete, that can be done too as long as you have access to the working parts of the macerator for service.
