We have been in our house eleven years (new when we bought it). We replaced the dishwasher about six months ago and the inside is filthy already. We are on a well and have a filter under the house I change every six months. The dishwasher does not back up, but there is a black film on the bottom and small black specs on our dishes. The old dishwasher had the same issue. Any ideas?

your filter is missing something, and I would wager it is biological. you need a local water treatment expert who is familiar with your local conditions to check this out. my first guess would be you have to chlorinate the well and possibly add a chlorinator or ozonator to the water before the bladder tank. if it's just the occasional spot, I'd think equipment wearing out someplace. but a film... nope. you have aliens. sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?

Thanks. What you say makes a lot of sense. I think it's a water/filter issue. Gives me a good starting point.

what effect does a dishwasher cleaner full of citric acid (dishwasher magic, finish) do to the film and guck? try one on hot cycle with sani-rinse. sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?

get some 20 mule borax at the grocery store and fillthe detergent container with it.sprinkle some of the same directly into the dishwaher and make sure the water is very hot. now start the washer let it wet the interior and turn the unit off let stand about 30 minutes and run the washer in longest cycle of the washer with very hot water all the way thru.let us know if you see any improvement after 1 or 2 cycles.
