Friend has a 20' ooold pontoon, basicaly a deck with a gaurdrail. Flooring is rotting out and it needs paint and carpet. Planning on having it trailered to my house garage for a winter project. Anyone have any idea on how much it might wiegh? Hoping to use 2 heavy duty 4-wheeled furniture dollies with 2 x 10 planks to place it on and be able to roll around.

Also what type of flooring should we use?

Have done alot of DIY home projects but never played with a boat before so any advice is appreciated. Thanks - Roy

There's never any such thing as a "free" boat.
Look into what a motor, it's controls, seats and trailor (pontoon boat trailer can be hard to find that will fit that size hul and are not going to be cheap) are going to cost for this before commiting to this project.
Is this going to be used on fresh or salt water?
Really check into what condition the pontoons are in. If someone ever applyed copper bottom paint to them there going to be full of pits and most likly will be leaking.
Marine grade plywood (never use pressure treated! It's treated with copper and will corrode the alumuinum and when it gets wet will be dripping green slime all over the aluminum) sealed with two coats of West System or similer 2 part epoxy on all sides applyed with a special roller for epoxy and then apply the carpeting with mastic not staples.
Some places to look on the net for Marine Supplys are West Marine, http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/main.do...DFF90A499311F.ajp13w
Any fastners are going to have to be stainless steel. Anything else will react with the aluminum.

Thanks Joecaption, no wonder you have so many posts, you've helped on every forum heading I've used, lol.
Anyway, it is used on a small lake that only allows 9.9 outbrds. SHe bought it from someone on the lake about 3yrs ago and everything but the floor/carpet and paint seem OK. Thanks for the link and flooring tips.
Still trying to figure out a way to roll it around in the garage.

Why not make 4 or these to set it on. That way one corner could be lifted at a time to get it up and on it. A 2 X 4 on each side of the top of it should keep the thing lined up with the pontoons.

I've had one of those for over 25yrs and it has been used hundreds of time. I have thought about just 2 of them (front & back)with a 2x10 plank going under the pontoons but one for each corner is probably a better idea. Thanks again!
