My Mother was given a framed art piece made with family jewelry. It was framed with quite a large wooden decorative frame. It had either a velvet or felt type green background. Centered within this frame, was a pine tree shape, filled to the brim with family member's old or broken jewelry. It was just beautiful! I am contemplating making an art piece such as this, altho' I'm wondering if I could use a different shape (other than the pine tree). Does anyone have suggestions? That picture was given to an out of state granddaughter so I don't have access to it.....I don't recall if jewelry was left intact, for instance brooches, or were they disassembled & just the stones used. I do recall earrings were left untouched (except the backing was removed). Has anyone ever made an art piece similar to what I'm explaining? I'd appreciate your comments or suggestions. Thank you! janster
I haven't seen anything like what you are looking for, but maybe it would be just as easy to ask your niece to take a picture and send it to you. Just a thought, hope it helps.
These are a "kitchey" art form from the 60's& 70's...it's really catching back on and so much fun. I make them and collect them. I learned to make them from an old crafting pamplet called "Classic Jeweled Pictures" found it on eBay. Just type in Jeweled Trees and watch what pops up. There are no rules to the shape or size just as long as it's sparkley..lol Here's some photos of mine... http://public.fotki.com/gingergirl/some_of_my_work/page3.html
Best of luck, ginger
