Hello, I am new to this message board. Does anyone have instructions for decopauging fabric to clear glass plates? Finishing the edges is the part I have trouble with. I've seen it in the past but can't seem to find instructions.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Dee

Was the reason you have had trouble with it was that the edges frayed? If yes, then try using a product like fray stop on the edges first, allow it to dry, then do the decopodge. You have to put a good layer of the medium on the plate first as it will soak into the fabric. Also make sure you prewash the fabric and dry it without fabric softener, so it will soak up the decopodge medium. I usually air dry, then iron my fabric first. Hope this helps Smile

Once you decoupage the fabric/paper on to the plate let it dry completely (about 24 hrs). Then you just trim around the plate with sharp scissors or other sharp blade to leave a nice clean edge. Smile

The following link has step-by-step instructions.

Yes, that was the issue......the edges just never come out right. I vaguely remember someone using a razor blade on the edges and then using maybe some steel wool (I think) to get the edges nice and smooth. Thanks so much for your advice!! Dee

Flo: thanks so much for your help on this plate issue. It seems that the scissors around the edges just doesn't make a nice smooth finish. I think I'm going to try some steel wool and see how that works......oh, yet another unfinished craft project in my basket.....
