I watched Craft Lab this morning and the guest instructor was using cut and carved potatoes to stamp on brown paper bags. I would think that one would want to use raw potatoes for stamping, but I swear the instructor was using a cooked one, at least a partially cooked one. Has anyone done this, or does anyone know which to use? Thanks in advance!

Terri

When I did potato stamping years ago, always used raw potatoes, as they held their shape through many stamp applications. Cooked ones would be too soft, I should imagine?

It does not even have to be a potato. But would definately be a raw, uncooked veggie to use. You can also carve a rutabega, apple turnip..whatever you can carve with a knife pretty much. You can also use a root end cut of celery for a great looking flower or sunshine- cut it off a few inches from the root end to give you handle to hold it by. I have done this with a friend who had an bumper crop of turnips one year Wink
Have Fun! Smile

Hey, I'm glad you said something about other vegetables and the pattern that cut celery would make...That sent my tired old brain spinning into visions of cross-cut sections of cabbage, cauliflower, and more! I can imagine these making cool patterns--and cabbage, at least, is still relatively inexpensive. Gee whiz, the kitchen won't be safe from my knife any more! Thanks much!!

It's always fun to share different ideas in crafting Smile plus I am a veggie addict and sometimes I have way too much of something to ever eat or can it all. Plus couldn't this be considered "natural" crafting? Works good on making cool T-shirts with fabric paint designs. I did that with celery and it looks just like roses on the shirt...and there are so many different colors of the paints- or you can get fabric medium and mix it with acrylic paint to get any color too. Never ending craft ideas on these boards and for some of us that is like winning the lottery almost. Wink
