How in the world do I get this shade off? There is no discernible screw or hinge on the clips, and tugging and turning only result in popcorn falling off the ceiling. HELP!
Sorry 'bout that - despite about 15 years of forum experience I'm at a loss as to how to attached pictures that are actually viewable. I don't have any ftp software on this computer so I'll have to charge up the laptop and upload it and repost.
I know you can't get your head up there to see over the top of the glass, so take your digital camera and pop the lens over the top and take a few pictures near where the clips are to see if there might be a screw that attaches those clips to the base. My guess is that either there is a screw to loosen and remove a clip or a spring that will allow one or more of them to move.
Hi, thanks for the response. I can't feel around because there is a ring or collar or somesuch that blocks my reach and view. I've felt around each of the clips and they all seem to abut to this ring. If there are any arms holding the ring, then I can neither see or reach around them. Bear in mind I'm very short and even with the stepstool can barely reach this thing, and also there's only about an inch clearance between the shade and the ceiling.
If you can be more specific about the arms or how they are the key maybe that will help me zero in.
Thanks for the tip, but there's no way to angle a camera lens under the shade with only about one inch clearance. The only way I've been able to see what little I can is with a dental mirror.
I had a much longer post that got eaten by a slow server, but I have already done all the obvious - I've tugged and pulled and twisted until the popcorn started coming off the ceiling. Of course I've already done the obvious. And per my previous post there are no hinges on these clips - once again that would be a pretty obvious assumption. They are composed of two peices - one that you can see in my picture, and other that is affixed onto a ring (and what that ring is attached to I have no way of knowing). The two pieces appear to be riveted together - no screw head.
Apparently no one has ever seen anything like this - the previous owner of this house was a church and I have learned that they never called professionals to do maintenance and repairs- they just asked a church member who may or may not have building experience to go over and whack a few things together. It's likely that this is actually two different light fixtures glued or welded together or some such nonsense. I'm not kidding you - you should see some of the other "repairs" I have encountered in this house. I guess I'm just going to have to accept that I will never be able to clean it or change the bulb unless I'm willing to sacrifice it altogether and remove it with a sledgehammer. Shame, cuz unlike most flush mounts of that era, this is actually quite attractive.
i got it ,i got it because nobody has taken it off i bet, that it is painted to the ceiling. and it clips to the bulb. your gonna have to take a utility knife and cut [carefully] around the fixture. then i think it will come off. when you find out let us know
I noticed this morning a lot of tiny flying bugs around my front door, they look like gnats. My front door is wooden, what home remendy can i use to get rid of them??? I tried spring them with clorex cleaning spray but they returned.

You will get a better response to your post if you start a new topic.
The little bugs that you are encountering probably are gnats. Are they on the inside or outside? Do you have lots of fruits in your kitchen on the counter? Potatoes in a bowl or bin? Houseplants? All of these things attract gnats. If you have fruits, put them in the fridge, potatoes are better stored in the garage in a cool dry place. If you have houseplants, add a layer of play sand on top of the dirt. This is the most effective way I have seen that helps keep them out of your house.
You can buy organic sprays to spray around the door to kill the ones around the door, you might be able to use some sort of citronella oil to keep them away. I'm really not sure. If you post your question in the gardening section, a board member with the screen name of "Newt" will surely have a fantastic answer for you. Newt is like the guru of gardening on the boards here and probably has forgotten more tidbits of valuable information than I have ever known!!
