I have dark brown stains in my bathroom sinks and don't know how to get rid of them. The sinksare old and not of the new modern materials, but seems like solid manmade product. If I use soft emory paper or some other cleaning agent(pumice) will I have to put some sort of finish on it to keep it waterproof? Are there other tings that can be used to clean these deep stains?

If you have not yet tried it, filling the sink with a strong bleach solution would be my first step? Could it be hair coloring? If an overnight soak does not remove it, then resorting to abrasives would probably be next.

Does the stain have a raised appearance at all, or is it just right into the surface material?
Bar Keepers Friend, BonAmi or Soft Scrub are all pretty good cleansers, and of course a pumice stone. But these work best in the case of a hard water deposit on the sink surface holding the stain.

If you do manage to remove the stain or lighten it, then an application of a product like Gel Gloss will help keep the sink easier to clean. Like a surface wax, it cleans, shines and protects the surface for a while. It will need to be reapplied after use of strong cleaners in the sink.

You might also want to fill the sink with water and use a boat-load of denture cleaning tablets and let it sit overnight. I have used them to clean toilets, might work for sinks too.

Mix together hydrogen peroxide and cream of tartar ( in spice aisle) to make a thick paste, put on stain, let sit a few mins. , then scrub w/ coarse side of dish sponge. It will not scratch the porcelin.
