I just wanted to share a cleaning secret that I had never heard of in case someone ever needs to know about it.
On Thursday morning, I walked into my kitchen & opened the pantry to get out a box of cereal. I went sliding. On Wednesday night, I put up groceries & (unknowingly) knocked over a big bottle of cooking oil. (It was about full, I had used a little once. Also, I didn't get the cap screwed on tight) All but about a half a cup or so leaked...no, poured out onto the floor of the pantry & a little out into the kitchen.
Needless to say, it was a HUGE mess. I really didn't have time to clean it up (I was going to quickly eat & dash out the door to go to work) So I pulled everything out of the bottom & threw down a few paper towels to absorb soemof the oil (mainly to keep the oil from spreading into the kitchen & as a visual warning to my son who gets home from school before I get home from work).
When I got home from work, I spent (what seemed like hours) wiping up oil with paper towels & newspapers. Then I mopped (with Dawn) 3 times. It seemed that mopping made it worst & spread the oil around. Also, some of the oil was up under the baseboard & was seeping back onto my flor.
Late Thursday night, I was talking to 'Tool Queen' on the phone & told her about what had happened. I mentioned that I planned to get some oil dry after work on Friday. She suggested kitty litter. I knew that the Dollar Tree sold small bags, so I picked a bag up on the way home. I put down a thin layer on the floor & all around the base board. Within a few minutes, the litter was a darker gray. I spread it around & it continued to absorb the oil. Anyway, I let it stay on over night & swept it up this morning. I was amazed at how well it work. 100 times better than mopping. I mopped it one more time (just to get up the little bit of gray dust).
Like I said, I thought I would share with others in case someone needs to get up oil.
(Thanks Tool Queen for the tip!!!)
Have a groovy day!

I know people have been using cat litter for absorbing automotive oil for decades...but never thought about it being helpful for kitchen oil spills.
Filing this one away in my brain for any later, needed retrieval! Thanks for posting to both you and Tool Queen.
