Does anyone know how to clean an aluinum door threshold?

When the threshold was new it had a sealer on it to protect the finish. Once it gets scraped of the metal trys to protect it's self by forming aluminum oxide (rust). It can be cleaned with a mild acid and rinced off then as soon as it's dry apply spray shillac.
