Trying to permanently remove the 40 year old bathtub clings put down in the bottom of the tub and shower to prevent slips and falls. Help! I can't even come up with the name of the stupid things! Rubbermaid manufactured them, they look like daisies, footprints, fish, etc.

A friend suggested this...

Close the tub's drain and pour a gallon of vinegar in tub and let it sit for about 1/2 - 1 hour. Just make sure the vinegar covers the stickers.

Then, with a plastic scraper, gently pry the stickers up. Don't use a metal scraper or you'll scratch the tub.

I have the same problem and posted on a forum in which the members primarily use green and homemade forms of cleaners. I believe white vinegar was one of the suggestions, but several also suggested oils, such as baby oils, to loosen the decals/clings. Then use a plastic putty knife, or something with an edge hard enough to scrape but not hard enough to damage the bathtub finish.

I thought I might also try lavender oil.

You might want to try scoring the tops of the stick-ons and spray WD-40 on them and let them set for a few hours. Then try to loosen the edges and remove. It might take a couple of attempts.

Goo-Gone which is an adhesive remover might work as well, too.

It is called a Pumice stone frodo, common brand name around here is "Pumie, scouring stick". Usually found in the cleaning isle at the home / hardware stores and some grocery stores. They are great. (get one even if you don't use it on your tub)

And I think it was what got the last of the ahesive off our tub from those darn non slip stickers....about 20 years ago.

Make sure you are dealing with a porcelain tub, and have enough water in it to cover the bottom, while you work with it. Cool

We used mineral spirits and they came off like a charm. Be sure to turn the fan on and keep the kids and pets away.
