I had my windows redone about 6 months ago. I just redid my bathroom and noticed that the installer didn't use any sprayfoam or other insulation around the windows. Is this something i should have expected them to do? One thing is we didn't do is have the windows re-cased so I am not sure if that might have been why they didn't do sprayfoam.

A complete window installation would include insulation in all spaces between the window and framing (either stuffed fiberglass or low-expansion foam) and the interior casing. It's possible that if the job was bid without interior casing, that it also was bid without insulation.

Basically, if your installer put in the windows and the casing and did not insulate, then they screwed up.

doesn't mean you can't take off the casing around the window, and use your own can of low-expansion ("Door and Window" labelled on the blue cans of Dow Great Stuff foam) foam to make it better.

this stuff also makes a fantastic glue, so don't overdo it. spray until you just see the foam, and keep the can moving, to reduce the ooze out of the gaps. wipe off the window as you can while wet. cut oozeout when dry in 1-2 days with a serrated steak knife you don't want any more.

i am replacing my windows in another year or so but im trying to keep them insulated as best as possable, so if all the old caulk is dry and cracked do i just caulk over the old or what ??

Did they install replacement windows or new constrution windows.
Big differance.
