drywall paper rip - how to repair? rip torn paper off or go over? Sign In/Join
        posted
I have a tear in my drywall against a door frame. The drywall paper is still attached, and is about 8 inches long & about 2 inches wide. To repair, should I a) cut off 8" X 2" strip of drywall paper, spackle and paint b) spackle OVER the torn strip and paint or c) other. I have a pic but it looks like it's too big

Cut the paper off and then respackle.

It's important to cut off any of the ragged edge of the tear - use a razor knife held at a sharp angle to slightly taper the cut. This should take at least two coats as the first coat will slightly raise any fuzzy remains of the sub-surface of the drywall. Put o a thins coat, let it cure and then add a second. Sand, paint and you're done.
