Hi all I have a question

I am replacing the exterior doors in my house due to old age warping of the wood and desire for better sealing/insulation and have a problem. All the prehung doors I've seen at the stores are standard dimmensions with the brickmolding that sits on the outside surface. My two entryways have doors that are 2" thick in the door/jamb area and the stops extend back an addition 3-3/4" for a total of
5-3/4" thickness. Can I obtain prehung doors that will fit or what do I need to do the alter them.

You can order the doors with wider jambs or extention jamb.
Or make your own extention jambs. If you have a table saw it's not that big a deal to make them.

It's special order at any of the big box stores. Fairly routine at any real door and window company.

Either somebody over insulated the wall or it's fire rated.... Either way Joe gave you the best advice, make your own extensions. The price difference is like night and day when you consider how easy it is to make your own.?
NOTE: If you decide to special order make sure all doors are the same. some places will not let you return them or will charge you a restocking fee.

Yep I just bough the 2" jamb extension kit and installed that to extend the jamb from 4 9/16" to 6 9/16. It was a real pain. There was no framing for the rough openeing just a bunch of loose brick and cinderblock So I had to get some mortar and fix that up and use Tapcon screws to attach the door to the brick/mortar.

Well we did ask you to send us a picture, there was suppost to be wood rough framing in the opening then the door was installed into that.
The jamb extentions were suppost to be attached to the jambs not the wall behind them.

Last year I had a similar question when replacing my exterior doors. I found that the easiest option was to call a company specializing in replacement doors and inquire about dimensions. I live in New England and contacted a company named NEWPRO They had excellent customer service and I would recommend them to anyone in my area.
