Hello, so a little about my situation. We have a loft style master bedroom. The stairs has a landing that is connected to our dining/living combo. There is no door currently, and I would like to add one for privacy. However, there is a window on the landing that lets in a lot of light to our dining/living room and we don't want to block that. I will attach an image so you can see what I mean. The opening is 51" wide. At first I was thinking maybe do a sliding barn door, but I don't think it would be able to close all the way because we have a baseboard heating unit at the edge of the wall. The other option I was considering was doing maybe a glass french doors in the opening, but I don't want to spend a bunch of money for custom doors because the opening is such a weird size. Any suggestions? A pocket door is not an option because it is a load bearing wall (I believe) and has electric in it, and basically I don't want to deal with the hassle.

Do you think you could rotate the photos so they're upright? It's kind of hard to visualize the situation with photos on their side.

        No criticism, just a suggestion.

        And I love your cat!

Not going to happen without building a wall that would run from the right hand side of the stairs to the wall to the left of the window, as you mentioned it will keep the light from coming in unless you use that french door in the wall.
A double 24" door would still give you a 48" opening if you needed to move a bed up or down the stairs.
There is no way to have any type of door just at the bottom of the stairs and meet code.

Can you put some kind of door at the top of the stairs?
