I have a 6 year old sliding glass and screen door leading to my patio. The handle (or latch) that moves up and down from the inside of the screen door, not really locks, but secures the screen door to the little hook in the metal/aluminum frame broke. My husband worries the cat can open the screen door if it is not latched closed (he probably can)! I can not find the same style latch, or anything close, at the big box hardware stores. I can not find anywhere on the door a brand name so I can order the part. All I found was an AAMA certification program sticker? Why is this simple 20 minute problem turning into a 2 day, 3 different hardware store, searching the Internet, problem that is still not fixed? Any help, ideas, will be appreciated.

I expect the reason there's no manufacturer's name on the door is because it was manufactured in China by a company that makes screen doors for lots of companies, and the importer simply put his name on the packaging. If you even come across a problem like that again, remember this company: http://www.allglassparts.com/ They're based in Edmonton, Alberta and they stock parts for just about every door or window that's ever been made. Most of the glass repair shops here in Winnipeg will order the parts they stock from All Glass.
