when plaster (or drywall, if it's not waterproof )gets wet over a period of time it will crumble. Technically called "efflorescence " You should remove it and install water resistant drywall, prime and paintThis message has been edited. Last edited by: nona,

There should not be any plaster or sheetrock in the "wet" area if there's a shower. Got any pictures you can post?
